COVID Auction Prices
There have been some odd trends recently in the Japanese vehicle auctions that have led our customers to wonder why prices are going up and down. Here are some thoughts on the fluctuations and what we might expect in the coming months:
We believe there are a few factors:
- There was a period of lower prices when COVID-19 first hit due to importers in many countries halting business while watching to see what would happen.
- The people that didn’t buy during that period may now be increasing demand because they saw the low prices and are also now urgently in need of stock.
- People in many countries are buying vehicles for commuting to avoid public transport (also affecting an increased demand).
- Various fluctuations of currency (not necessarily JPY against US dollar or Euro, but also other currencies).
- Perhaps less vehicles available (so supply low) due to the recent cheap prices (reluctance to sell during a low) and other factors (e.g. maybe less Japanese are selling their cars or buying new cars due to economical effects of COVID).
There are also holidays coming up in Japan, which usually sees a lower of number of vehicles. However we are still a few weeks away from that so it would be unusual to be seeing this effect this early).
Our team at Get Cars Japan hope for all of our customers that the seemingly higher price period recently witnessed is winding down and things will normalize in August.

Auctions and COVID-19
We trust you are all staying safe in this uncertain time. If you do not already take Vitamin D, please do so (unless you get plenty of sun).
The auctions have taken measures including social distancing, and requesting members bid from home whenever possible. They have also emphasized that auction entry to inspect vehicles should be limited, that masks are worn, and there are hand sanitizers readily available.
Unfortunately a few auctions have also included not allowing members in to inspect vehicles, but the good news is this policy is expected to end My 39th.
This photo was taken by Doug today who checked out several vehicles which helped one customer buy the right car, and another avoid the wrong car.
Please take care to keep your health up, continue social distancing after lockdowns are over, and we wish you and your families all the best of health.
Coronavirus Schedule
Dear Customers,
Please note that due to the possibility of a widespread coronvirus outbreak in Japan over the coming weeks, From March 26th Get Cars Japan are going to trial a semi-social distancing plan to both lower the number of people in the office and lessen the risks involved with public exposure coming to and from work.
The above schedule shows an O for which staff members will be in office and an H for when staff will be working from home. Please contact our staff working from home directly.
We also extend our best wishes to all customers and earnestly hope for your and your families’ health and safety during these times of peril and also follow the recommendations of health professionals to practice social distancing in order to defeat coronavirus.

New Exciting Laws for Australians
New laws for concessional imports
New legislation will this year change which vehicles can be imported into Australia.
When the Road Vehicle Standards Act 2018 is introduced later this year it will drastically change what vehicles can be imported into Australia by non-mainstream importers.
A 12-month transition period will allow vehicles to be imported both under the new standards or the outgoing legislation, which dates back to 1989.
After 12 months has expired, sometime in 2019 (it depends on when the new rules come in this year), only the new regulations will apply.
